Tony DeSare has earned critical acclaim for his recent performances at the legendary jazz club Birdland, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and for his new big band show which debuted at the fabled Sands Hotel in Atlantic City. His takes on classic standards and sophisticated original compositions have earned him a reputation as one of the country’s hottest young singer/pianists. Tony was personally selected by Sam Arlen, son of Harold Arlen, the composer of classic songs like “Over The Rainbow,” “Get Happy,” and “Stormy Weather,” to participate in a special tribute show for the 2005 Harold Arlen Centennial with the Duke Ellington Orchestra at Birdland. The prospect of Tony Desare, performing along with Bucky Pizzarelli’s swinging guitar, will likely excite a large number of jazz lovers.
Red Bank’s Summer Jazz Café’s roster also includes:
July 7 & 8 - Christos Rafalides, hot “Manhattan Vibes”

“We felt that Red Bank is the right place and now is the time. What could be more fitting than to create a home base for this organization in Red Bank, New Jersey…the hometown of jazz great William “Count” Basie and the beautiful, new Two River Theater,” said Jazz Arts Project’s Artistic Director, Red Bank resident Joe Muccioli.
Mr. Muccioli is an internationally respected conductor, orchestrator, musicologist and producer. Currently he is principal conductor of Orchestra Atlanta, and is conductor and music director for actor/entertainer Joe Piscopo, with performances in Atlantic City, and tours of the US and abroad. Mr. Muccioli has conducted major symphonies and jazz orchestras throughout the world, including the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, the BBC Big Band, the Wuppertal Symphony (Germany), the London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and the Birmingham Symphony in England. His work also includes concerts, recordings and other projects with such artists as Miles Davis, Jon Faddis, Randy Brecker, Barry Harris, Quincy Jones, and Wynton Marsalis.
The Jazz Arts Project is currently planning its 2006/2007 inaugural concert season, which will feature its flagship ensemble, The Red Bank Jazz Orchestra, modeled after the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.
“Jazz is truly an American voice. It’s steeped in history and tied to social consciousness, democracy, and diversity.” Mr. Muccioli said. “It crosses all social boundaries and was one of the first areas of integration in America. We want to pay homage to the great jazz legends like Duke Ellington and Count Basie, while presenting new, fresh performances, featuring today’s young jazz lions!”
